Grades 5 to 12. Ontario mathematics.

You find out what's actually wrong. Two 45-minute live classes a week. You get it in writing. Classes are composed by grade and strand, in twelve-week terms on the Ontario school calendar. Twelve, because the instructor starts the term already knowing what each child is stuck on. The time goes on those twelve specific things rather than on finding them.

Two ways in, depending on the year

Grades 5 to 9 — the diagnostic runs first. The mathematics of these years has a physical model behind it, so a child can show you what they think by shading a strip or choosing a picture, and the error is visible in what they touched. The class is built around what it found.

Grades 10 to 12 — taught to the course. Same two 45-minute classes a week, same reporting to the parent. The instructor reads the student's own working rather than a screen log. See the senior courses.

Instructors are 18 or over and hold a vulnerable sector check, verified before any contact with a child. We recruit from supply teachers, teacher's college candidates and community-school teachers.

Grade 5

Equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering fractions and decimals, decimals to hundredths, and the equivalences between fractions, decimals and percents.

Grade 6

Number to one million, integers on a number line, decimals to thousandths, adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, divisibility and prime factorisation, ratios, rates and percents.

Grade 7

Operations with integers and rational numbers, greatest common factor and lowest common multiple, proportional reasoning, and the first work with algebraic expressions.

Grade 8

Rational numbers, exponents, proportional reasoning applied to rate and percent problems, solving linear equations, and linear relations.

Grade 9 • MTH1W

The de-streamed Grade 9 course: number, algebra, linear relations, coding and financial literacy. The last year the diagnostic covers.

Grade 10 • MPM2D, MFM2P

Quadratics, analytic geometry and trigonometry in Principles; measurement, similar triangles and linear systems in Foundations. Senior courses

Grade 11 • MCR3U, MCF3M, MBF3C

Functions and transformations, exponentials, trigonometry, sequences and series. Functions is the gate to every senior course above it. Senior courses

Grade 12 • MHF4U, MCV4U, MDM4U

Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, and Data Management — the three that university programmes ask for. Senior courses

Does this match what the school is actually teaching?

Yes. Every unit is checked against the Ontario 2020 mathematics curriculum before it is taught, from two independent sources. When we name a curriculum expectation, we teach the whole of it, not a fragment.

Does the Grade 9 EQAO count now?

From 2026–27 it is 20 per cent of the Grade 9 mathematics course mark. It is the first provincial assessment that lands on a report card.

If Grade 9 is shaky, the cause is usually something from Grade 6 or 7, not the Grade 9 unit itself. That is what the diagnostic is for.
