Senior mathematics, by course code.
Taught to the course your child is actually enrolled in. Two 45-minute live classes a week, cap of twelve, twelve-week terms. Twelve, because the instructor starts the term already knowing what each child is stuck on. The time goes on those twelve specific things rather than on finding them. The diagnostic is for Grades 5 to 9; senior placement is a conversation.
Senior maths fails backwards too
A student struggling in Advanced Functions is rarely struggling with Advanced Functions. They are usually carrying something unresolved from Grade 11 Functions, or from the quadratics and trigonometry of Grade 10 — and the course moves too fast for anyone to go back and find it.
Senior classes work the same way the junior ones do: the instructor establishes where the actual break is before teaching over the top of it. The difference is method. Above Grade 9 the error lives inside written working, so the instructor reads the student's own lines rather than a screen log, and the report to the parent is written from that.
Grade 9
Number, algebra, linear relations, coding and financial literacy. The single course every Grade 9 student in Ontario now takes.
The EQAO assessment counts. From 2026–27 it is weighted at 20 per cent of the final course mark under Growing Success — the first provincial assessment that lands directly on a report card.
Grade 9 is the last year the interactive diagnostic covers, and it is where it earns the most: a Grade 9 student who is shaky is usually shaky because of something from Grade 6 or 7. The diagnostic finds which one before the course buries it. How it works
Grade 10
Quadratic relations, analytic geometry and right-triangle and acute-triangle trigonometry. The academic route, and the prerequisite for Grade 11 Functions. Where quadratics go wrong here, Grade 11 does not recover on its own.
Measurement, similar triangles, trigonometry and linear systems in applied contexts. The applied route into the college-stream Grade 11 courses.
Grade 11
Functions and their transformations, quadratics, exponential functions, trigonometry, and sequences and series. This is the gate. Every Grade 12 course a university programme asks for sits on top of it.
The same territory approached through application rather than abstraction, for students heading to college programmes or to Grade 12 college-stream mathematics.
Trigonometry, quadratics, exponentials, personal finance and data. Leads into MAP4C.
Grade 12
Polynomial, rational, logarithmic and trigonometric functions, and rates of change. Required by most university science, engineering and business programmes, and the prerequisite for Calculus and Vectors.
Derivatives and their applications, curve sketching, vectors, and lines and planes in three dimensions. Usually taken alongside or after MHF4U, which is where students get into trouble.
Counting, probability, statistics and the culminating investigation. Accepted by a wide range of university programmes and often the strongest second maths credit.

How a senior class runs
