The EQAO Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics counts toward the final course mark for at least 10%, up to a maximum of 30%, with each school board deciding the exact weight. A written exam counts for 20% of a Grade 10 mathematics mark and 25% in Grades 11 and 12.

Adds the tops and the bottoms
Your child adds fractions the way they add whole numbers — top plus top, bottom plus bottom. One half plus one third becomes two fifths. The answer is smaller than the half they started with, which is the giveaway, and it is worth asking them whether that can be right before telling them anything.
What we saw: adding one half and one third on strips, they shaded 2 of 6 — the two top numbers, ignoring the sizes.

The class
Two 45-minute classes a week, live and online, in twelve-week terms on the Ontario school calendar. A class runs with at least four students and caps at ten. The time goes on the specific things they are stuck on rather than on covering the unit in order.
The lesson, then the work
First class is the teaching. Second takes up what they got stuck on — questions and worked problems — while it is still in front of them.

For this cohort the role is Grade 9 MTH1W. Applicants need Ontario College of Teachers membership in good standing, a math qualification, and a current Vulnerable Sector Check already in hand. They deliver a course that already exists: the sequence is set before the term, the materials and homework are prepared, and the instructor teaches to that plan. Every report is read and approved before a parent sees it. This is a prepared course, not a tutor improvising from this week's homework.
